FAQs

What does PCPK believe?

PCPS believes that children, parents and teachers grow and learn together!

Every child is unique! We believe that learning comes from the love of learning. This love shines through with the help of our dedicated teachers and parents as they guide the students through a program based on their age, interest and needs.

Children learn from their environment! We want their world to be filled with wonder and awe as we encourage them and build on their natural strengths.

This type of learning environment helps the children grow emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically at a rate that is most comfortable to them.

My family is LGBTQIA+. Will we be welcome here?

Absolutely. As a secular preschool, we embrace families of all backgrounds, shapes, and sizes. We want this to be a safe space for all children and their families.

What is the required medical and immunization information?

We need to have a “well-child” form completed and turned in by the time the child begins school. We also need to have a copy of up-to-date immunizations or medical/religious exemptions.

What CPR, First-Aid, or emergency training do the teachers and staff have?

We require staff to be trained in CPR and first-aid. We encourage all volunteers to go through training.

What does the school use to measure the success of students?

The teachers and director perform the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and, end of year assessments. These assessments are intended to show the growth of students throughout the school year. We also perform informal daily assessments.

What do the safety drills consist of?

We are required to perform fire and storm drills in accordance with the state of Missouri. For security purposes, the exact method of drills is given upon enrollment.

Is the school’s curriculum religious?

PCPK is an inclusive community that welcomes families from all religious and ethnic backgrounds. We believe that families are in the best position to teach their children religious material that reflects their household’s beliefs. Therefore, our school’s curriculum is not religious in nature.

Does my child have to be potty trained?

Our facility is not licensed to change diapers. Therefore, being fully potty trained (or close!) is a huge benefit.

My child is almost potty trained. Should I enroll?

Being fully potty trained in a big benefit, and only you will know if your child can handle the 4-hour school day. In the case of an accident, children need to be able to change their clothes. The frequency of accidents at school should be no more than once or twice a week in order for it to be productive for children.

If all families send volunteers to the classroom, how can I make sure my child is safe?

We take the well-being of your child seriously. Volunteers must register for the Family Care Safety Registry and pass the background check before volunteering in the classroom. Even though all of our volunteers/parents are vetted, children are never alone with a volunteer.

What is the experience and background of the staff?

Our staff is highly qualified. Many members of the current staff have a 4-year degree in education, and some have their M.Ed. Many of our staff members are former public school teachers.

The staff members who haven’t completed their education degree or licensing were selected because of their outstanding performance and early childhood experience.

The staff have many years of combined early childhood experience and are parents themselves. In addition to the qualifications we exhibit, we pride ourselves on our staff having respect for all students and families, and the energy and love to give.

Can I donate items to the school?

Please contact the teachers and director directly to see if we are in need of any particular items. Our teachers almost always have a wish list, and they'll be thrilled!

What happens when a teacher calls in sick?

If a teacher calls in sick, the director will fill in for said teacher. If both teachers are sick, classes will be combined and taught by the director. In the event that no staff is available, there will be no school.

How do the teachers and staff stay current on child development and safety practices?

Our staff goes through collaborative meetings that involve up-to-date training methods, safety procedures, and more. It is our goal to always stay current on the changing safety and education practices and provide the best environment for your children.

It is my child’s first time away from home, how do I know they are handling the change and transition well?

Transitions are hard for all of us, no matter the ages. We strongly advise parents to never try and “sneak away”, especially for the little class. We encourage you to give a hug or kiss and remind them that you will always come back.

The staff is always able and willing to step in and help ease the transition. Separation anxiety is a completely normal part of development. It is helpful for parents and families to display their child’s artwork at home, try to keep routines and schedules consistent and talk through the process with their children.
